"We are going to expose to the international community the achievements that have put us at the forefront of international ocean protection", said the Minister for Foreign Affairs when referring to his participation, this October 5 and 6, in the Conference Our Ocean, which is organized by the European Union and this year takes place in Malta.

In this regard, he explained that this is "an extraordinarily important meeting for Chile, where we will give an account of the commitments we have made for the conservation of the oceans". In the same vein, he said that he will report on Chile's progress in marine protected areas.

Chancellor Muñoz has previously pointed out that "what is being asked of the international community for 2020: that 20% of the Exclusive Economic Zones of the countries are protected. And Chile already has 46% and that makes us proud".

It should be noted that this Conference is of vital importance in view of our linkage with the Pacific and the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, goal 14, which is "to conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources".
