Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz participated today in the third meeting of the Lima Group, held in Toronto, to address the situation in Venezuela. The meeting was also attended by the Foreign Ministers and representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay and Peru.

In this regard, the Minister assured that the Lima Group maintains its "unwavering determination to continue our efforts to restore a constitutional democratic order in Venezuela".

At the same time, the Minister informed that in January 2018 there will be another meeting of the Lima Group, this time in Chile. "We have just agreed to continue meeting and evaluate the situation in Venezuela and we will meet in Santiago in mid-January".

In relation to the last regional elections held in Venezuela on October 15, the Foreign Minister assured that Chile "rejects irregular elections, characterized by intimidation", confirming that there is "the need for basic guarantees, like any democratic election", he said.

On this point, the Minister explained that there must be "an Electoral Council, as requested by the opposition itself", in addition to the confidence of all parties and an electoral calendar that includes the presidential elections. In addition, there is the "international and neutral observation before, during and after" the process.

The head of Chilean diplomacy emphasized that "Chile will not be part of a mock dialogue to establish these conditions". He added that much has been said about a negotiation and a political solution, "which is what we want, but Chile, by the way, will not support a dialogue that is only a simulation, a staging".
