Chile and China sign 13 cooperation agreements aimed at modernizing their bilateral agenda

Within the context of the State Visit of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, to China, Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren participated today in the signing of 13 cooperation agreements between the two countries, which will modernize the bilateral agenda, deepen the relationship and continue to benefit the people of both countries.
 
During the ceremony, led by President Boric and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, Minister van Klaveren was in charge of signing six agreements on various matters:
 
Together with the Chairman of the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission, he signed the Cooperation Plan for the Joint Promotion of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which defines the areas of cooperation and implementation mechanisms to advance in the context of the Belt and Road. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening exchange and cooperation in the field of economic development, which will allow them to discuss policies and experiences in macroeconomics, the Belt and Road, investment in economy and trade, sustainable development, clean energy, digital economy, and human and cultural exchanges.
 
With the Minister of Natural Resources of China, Minister van Klaveren signed a MoU on Antarctic cooperation. And finally, with the Minister of Commerce of China, he signed a MoU on investment cooperation in digital economy; a MoU on the establishment of a working group on economic and investment cooperation; and a MoU on the promotion of economic and trade cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises.
 
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, signed an MoU on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh stone fruits, which is expected to facilitate the shipment of the product to China; an MoU on phytosanitary electronic certification; and an MoU on organic products.
 
The Minister of Economy, Production and Tourism, Nicolás Grau, signed an MOU on an aquaculture inspection protocol, an MOU on strengthening cooperation in digital economy and an MOU to promote investment and industrial cooperation.
 
Finally, the executive director of the Chilean Agency for International Development Cooperation, Enrique O'Farrill, signed a MoU for the promotion of the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, so that both parties can work together in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and jointly build results-oriented projects that benefit developing countries.
