Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto van Klaveren and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan sign agreement on science, technology and innovation

Thursday, May 4th 2023

Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren, together with the Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister, Yoshimasa Hayashi, who is visiting our country, signed an agreement on cooperation in science, technology and innovation.

This bilateral agreement will expand the scope of cooperation through a partnership that includes the promotion of research and development projects; the exchange of information on policies, practices and laws in the field; as well as intensify visits and exchanges of experts from both countries to share best practices, among other matters.

The ceremony was also attended by the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza; the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry; the Minister of Mining, Marcela Hernando, and the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow.

In addition, as part of this visit, both authorities held a meeting with the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, to discuss the various areas of interest between the two countries and thus continue to deepen ties in the fruitful common agenda that last year was a milestone in the celebration of 125 years of diplomatic relations.

It should be noted that Japan is Chile's fourth largest trading partner and one of Asia's main investors in our country.
